Can You Work For Free?

without comments

Work for free.  It’s a radical concept isn’t it? I posed the question to friend of mine a few hours ago. It was clear by the look on their face that they thought it was an incredulous idea. “Impossible!”, they said.

I’ll put the question to you a little differently.  If all your bills were paid, would you still do what you do? Would your business still go about it’s business the same way? Would you tweet the same stuff? Post the same Facebook updates?

I know I would. I looooove what I do. I was made for this. In my DNA is a gene that’s all about helping people grow what they do. I have no hard research to back up my claim, but I think brands that are the most effective in the B2C are those that don’t try to be what they are not. If your demographic is the super rich, trying to acquire market share at the bottom of the pyramid (highly price sensitive, lower income buyers) is like a Tiger trying to be a Leopard. Stripes just can’t be spots. There will be a lack of authenticity and probably relevance that will ensure your efforts don’t amount to much.

Find your space, what you were built for and become the best at it. Then get out there and let people know about it. Educate and empower your audience. It’s a more fulfilling route to success.

What do you think?
