Africa has a fast growing middle-class, the fastest growing in the world. In sub-Sahara Africa, financial services remain one of the fastest growing sectors. However, penetration of insurance and formal banking remains very low despite the apparent increase in earning potential and purchasing power. There is a lot of room for innovation in the design of new business models, products and payment plans for insurance and banking services especially for the middle income consumer class on the continent.
Our practice includes actuarial scientists and social scientists who together with the rest of the Semacraft team take a multi-disciplinary approach to the design of financial services in Africa. In 2012, we shall publish the results of our study on financial services for the emerging middle class focused on Kenya and Uganda. Follow us on Twitter or check our blog for the latest updates.
